What is sensory play?
Sensory play facilitates learning, exploration, curiosity and builds your child’s creativity, imagination and language skills. It naturally encourages children to use motor skills and scientific processes while they play, create, investigate, problem solve and explore their surroundings. If children are allowed to explore textures and sensations outside of their comfort zones and at their own pace, they develop knowledge, trust and understanding of their senses. They build positive nerve pathways and connections in the brain, letting them know that it is safe to engage with (including food). Over time, if children are given the opportunity to engage in different sensory activities with a range of different textures, they will build a strong foundation of knowledge and positive connections.

SENSORY PLAY PACKS & PARTIES
What are the specific benefits of sensory play?
- It enhances their physical development: fine motor skills (including pincer grasp, building small muscles, finite skills, eating, hand-eye coordination) and gross motor skills (including mixing, whisking, cutting, stirring, pouring etc) – these are all ways in which children are experimenting and discovering, as well as developing physically.
- It enhances their cognitive and emotional development: focus, concentration, language development, numeracy, social interactions, self-control and emotional regulation. It also has the ability to enhance memory, understand different sensory attributes (e.g. hot, cold, crunchy, slimy etc.), calm an anxious or frustrated child, and helps children discover their own sensory likes and dislikes. Allowing your child to explore with different textures allows them to strengthen their sensory processing skills, as well as their nervous systems.
- It enhances their creative development: creativity is important in developing the problem-solving part of your child's brain. It enhances their innovative thinking and allows them to explore their ideas and create something they are proud of. Did you know that messy play fosters curiosity, imagination and exploration? There is no right way to carry out messy play. It is all about letting children explore and experiment with different objects and raw materials, without any end goals to restrict them. Children’s imaginations can run wild and they can spend a long time exploring these, making their own discoveries, stimulating their curiosity and developing their neural connections. With messy play and exploring how things feel, look, sound, smell and taste, the sensory experience also helps children to understand their senses. This type of play nurtures an awareness and understanding of the world that surrounds them. Let us help your child learn through exploring and encouraging their creativity.
- It reduces the risk of becoming a 'picky' eater: studies have shown that children who sit in a high chair/at a table and get messy with food, can help them to quickly learn about food and non-solid substances. This is an important step for their brain development and impacts the way children learn. Whilst children are eating, their brains are processing all the sensory information from the food. This includes the colours they see, the aromas they smell, the flavours they taste, the feel they touch, and the sounds the foods make when we touch and eat them. For children, this can be an overwhelming experience and can be why they get upset or disengage at mealtimes. By providing children with a variety of experiences with food, for example in sensory play, we can encourage children to explore freely and process the sensory information from a very early age.

About Me
Hi there, I'm Casey.I am the owner of Sensory Play Packs & Parties. I have lived in the Port Macquarie area my whole life and have been dreaming about owning my own small business for quite some time.I am a mother to three beautiful little children, one who is diagnosed with Childhood Apraxia of Speech, Autism and ADHD. This is where my passion for sensory play has come from - my kids; combined with my enthusiasm for teaching and enriching the minds of all children.I am a Primary School Teacher with 14+ years experience working with children of all ages, in and out of the classroom. I have a Bachelor of Primary Teaching / Bachelor of Arts and also love to teach music. I am also a Support Worker and love to help people of all ages access the community and the things they love. I have seen a greater need for children (from a very young age) to access sensory experiences and music in order to regulate their bodies and be able to play and learn more effectively for their development.Sensory Play Packs & Parties not only brings unique learning experiences to your child through play, but is also a wonderful way to have fun and get messy at home or at any event/venue you decide to host! I love to help engage local families and spread the awareness of the benefits of sensory play for all young children, especially through local markets, daycare/preschool/school incursions and playgroups. Sensory Play Packs
Whether you’re looking for an activity so you can finally get to that washing basket, a special treat activity to take away on holidays, or you’re stuck and bored with a sick household, giving your child a sensory pack will keep your child learning and engaged in meaningful play for hours (not even kidding…). They’re even reusable! Chuck the lid back on when they’re finished and store away for a rainy (or sunny) day!Each pack contains materials and items for sensory play and fine motor development. The fascination for sensory play comes naturally for children and should be encouraged and supported at home. Your child will be able to grow confidence in their senses and let their imaginations flow freely. Let them explore sensory play opportunities at home with one (or a few) of our packs. Sensory Play Parties
Here at Sensory Play Packs & Parties, we love organising sensory experiences for birthday parties (or any special event). We can make your child’s party unique, fun, messy and stress-free with one of our party packages. We believe that our sensory parties are ideal for children aged 0-8+ years old but we can accommodate all ages, needs, themes, special requests and budgets. We will help you host a party that your guests will thoroughly enjoy and one they will definitely remember for years to come. Your participating guests will explore a variety of sensory activities, and are guaranteed to have the most fun, creating wonderful sensory memories. We aim to make your party planning and preparation as easy as possible for you (we can even create personalised E-invites), providing the entertainment side of things so you don't have to worry. On the day, you can be sure to sit back and enjoy the fun with your child(ren) and guests. You choose the venue and we will do the rest!
What happens at a Sensory Play party?
In order to make your party unique and just as you’d like it, we offer a few packages to choose from (with stations in each package to choose from). Does your little one have a personal favourite sensory activity? Just let us know when completing the booking form and we’ll provide the rest! Why not personalise the party with a choice of theme at no extra cost (rainbow, construction, transport, sports, ocean, animals, a particular colour scheme)?Our sensory packages all include:
- Set up of sensory stations
- Photographs of set up (before the fun begins)
- Clean up of sensory stations
What do I need to do?
1. All you need to do is find a suitable venue and book it (if required) for a minimum of 3 hours.
2. Choose your Sensory Play Party Package and complete a booking form to secure your date and time (then await confirmation from us).
3. Invite your guests and get excited!We are very flexible with the location of your party - this can be done at home in your backyard, garage or even at your local park. It’s worth checking with your venue if there are any restrictions in place which would prohibit the use of certain sensory play resources. Please ask these questions when booking and deciding on your venue, and let us know too. We will be in touch with confirmation and any questions, as well as touch base with you a couple of days before the party to discuss specific arrangements. Please choose a venue with adequate shade or add on our gazebo as an extra upon booking.What will my event look like?
On the day, we will arrive approximately 1-2 hours prior to your agreed party start time to prepare the sensory stations area and to take some photos of the set-up. The sensory play party will then be left for you and your guests to enjoy. A team member can be there to introduce the materials and stations to your guests and be there to ensure everyone has a great time (additional charge). The activities are child led so remember to just roll with it and enjoy the fun! The sensory stations will be available for 1-2 hours (depending on your selected package and/or if extended time has been organised). We also have a few passive or 'mess-free' options in some of our packages or as an additional extra for any children who need a break during the party. Once everyone has enjoyed the hour of sensory stations, we will spend 30-60 minutes cleaning up and then leave you to enjoy the rest of your party.
PLEASE NOTE: When we arrange the timings for your party we must ensure we adhere to these timings and your party starts promptly at the agreed time. There will be a charge of $50 per every 30 minutes the party starts late. We are very flexible and understand if things go wrong, but please discuss this upon booking.How do I check availability?
It’s not uncommon for parties to book out months in advance so we do recommend that you register your interest as soon as possible and make a booking deposit to avoid disappointment. To book your own unique Sensory Play party, please complete a booking form on our 'Contact' page or get in touch with us via email or social pages.What is involved with a party package?
Our packages start from $450 for up to 10 children with $25 per additional child there after. Please see below for details and prices of our different packages, the inclusions and optional extras available to you. If you would like to hold a more personalised event that the packages and options don't cover, please do not hesitate to contact us for a personalised quote. We do require a $100 non-refundable deposit to secure your booking. Full payment is then due 7 days prior to your event. Cancellations must be made prior to 48 hours of the start of the party or the full cost is forfeited. This is because materials and sensory stations are prepared for days in advance, prior to the party day.Is a Sensory Play party safe?
Each child attending the party must be accompanied and actively supervised by an adult at all times to ensure everyone is kept safe. Young children often like to put things in their mouths to explore them. This, however, brings choking and allergy risks so should be discouraged and closely monitored by parents and/or care givers. Please notify us prior to the event if there is anyone attending the party that has allergies so we can ensure the sensory stations do not contain specific allergens. Please also advise parents of all children attending the party that some materials used have the potential to stain clothing.
